ST. LOUIS - Leonard Griggs, a former Air Force colonel and longtime director of the St. Louis Lambert International Airport, died earlier this week at the age of 92. Griggs served as the airport director in nearly two decade-long terms from 1977 to 1987 and 1993 to 2004, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Rhonda Hamm-Niebruegge, current Lambert airport director, tells FOX 2 that Griggs had a significant impact on the operations and federal funding of the airport. "Over the two decades he was there, he fought in Washington for every federal dollar that was there, and it was for the betterment of the airport," said Hamm-Niebruegge. Griggs was one of several airport leaders during the time Lambert Airport pushed for growth through a billion-dollar runway known as W1W. Those plans were met with some local opposition, however, leading to nearly 2,000 homes and businesses being forced out of the City o...

Kickin’ It with Kiz: Has Russell Wilson won the right to be Broncos’ QB in 2024 and beyond?

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 05:32:49 GMT

Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson looks like a winner again. The statistics don’t count, just winning. It was a bad situation for everyone last year, and now Wilson is showing us how good he is.Gerard, driving the bandwagonKiz: We’ve all seen it. DangeRuss can be a robot. By stubbornly shielding the human emotions in his heart, Wilson can make it difficult for teammates or fans to embrace him. But know what? His cold, calculating nature has also helped Wilson and the Broncos recover from an awful 1-5 start to this season. A quarterback who burns too hot might well have let his ego get in the way of the efficient game management in which Wilson sacrifices big passing numbers for the good of Denver’s no-nonsense approach to winning.Wilson has been better than I expected. But I still don’t want him on the team next season, and not much short of a trip to the Super Bowl can change my mind.G.B., watching from CaliKiz: There are no guarantees in life or the NFL. B...

Oregon State loses Jonathan Smith: Our candidate list for the Beavers as their search begins and uncertainty swirls

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 05:32:49 GMT

The prodigal son is gone. Oregon State coach Jonathan Smith accepted Michigan State’s contract offer on Saturday, one day after his alma mater suffered a season-ending loss to Oregon that felt funereal on multiple levels:— Their last regular-season game in the Pac-12.— Their last scheduled rivalry game against the Ducks.— Their last game with Smith on the sideline. This is not a gut punch, folks. It’s a right cross to an exposed jaw as the Beavers scramble to secure their future following the implosion of the Pac-12. Is Oregon State rebuilding the conference? Will it eventually join the Mountain West? How deep are the resources? How thin is the roster? It’s brutal timing in every regard. Candidates for the position will have a slew of questions the school simply cannot answer. That said, we view this as the wrong move for Smith — not because he’s leaving OSU, which is understandable given the uncertainty, but because Michigan State is the...

(BCN) -- The first thing Guillermo Tejeda does when he visits a new school is hunt for the piano. At most schools, the teacher finds a dusty old instrument, out of tune, stashed away in a dark closet. The cobwebs tell him all he needs to know about how little arts education those students have been getting. His go-to technique to get them more jazzed about learning is to tickle the ivories, make that piano come back to life."I'll bring it out, dust it off. I'll bring students into the auditorium and I'll do lessons there," said Tejeda, a fourth grade teacher at Wadsworth Elementary in hardscrabble South Central Los Angeles. "I'm telling you, when I bring in song, when I bring music and performance into the classroom, the students light up in a way that really creates a meaningful experience for them."
