This is what’s causing Southern California's ocean waves to glow

Earlier this week, a photographer and videographer captured boogie boarders surfing some bioluminescent waves in Huntington Beach. The glow from the waves is a result of algae that is disturbed at night and causes bioluminescence. Nate Jaros, senior director of fish and invertebrates at the Aquarium of the Pacific told KTLA that the microalgae, called a dinoflagellate, is associated with red tide, otherwise known as harmful algae blooms, and gives the water a red-colored tint during the day while creating a bioluminescent glow when disturbed at night. “It's the same type of organism when you have a red tide, which gives the water kind of an orangish brown, red kind of hint when they are in high density during the day,” he said. “But at night when disturbed, they produce bioluminescence. So when there's a lot of agitation in the surf, it can activate that bioluminescence which makes the waves appear to be glowing.”The microalgae always exists in the water, but during the su...Hurricane expected to bring big waves to Southern California

(KRON) -- There's a dead goat mystery in the North Bay. More than a dozen goats have died and several more have gotten sick. The goats are part of a large herd brought in to help the city of Tiburon with their fire abatement program. City officials hope the problem can be figured out and the goats can come back to tackle their job.About two weeks ago more than 300 goats arrived in Tiburon. The goats were brought in by the city to eliminate weeds in open spaces in order to reduce potential fire fuel. However, soon after getting going on the land, the goats got sick. BART to run its last legacy train Sunday night Tiburon's mayor, Jack Ryan, revealed that 14 goats died and 15 more got sick."Capra Environmental swooped in and brought the herd back to their stables," said Mayor Ryan.A spokesperson says their veterinarian examined the animals to figure out what was wrong."They think that it is possible it was a species of plant, French Bloom, that got them sick. Watch the soundbite in the video player above. Bosa's answer may sound cliché. However, buying a house in the Bay Area -- specifically in Santa Clara County -- isn't an easy purchase, even for an NFL player. Before signing his huge extension, Bosa's 2022 salary was $895,000, according to Spotrac. NEW YORK (AP) — Novak Djokovic limited big-serving Ben Shelton to five aces and broke him five times in their U.S. Open semifinal Friday. Djokovic pushed back when the 20-year-old unseeded American produced a late stand that got the home crowd into the match. And after overcoming what he called “a little black hole” caused by tension to right himself, finish off a 6-3, 6-2, 7-6 (4) victory and reach his record-tying 10th final at Flushing Meadows and 36th at all major tournaments, Djokovic added a touch of insult to injury by mimicking the kid’s “Hang up the phone!” celebration gesture.Djokovic then pointed to his temple and pounded his fist on his chest, before a stone-faced Shelton met him at the net for the most perfunctory of handshakes. A year after Djokovic could not travel to the United States for the Open because he is not vaccinated against COVID-19, the 36-year-old from Serbia is one victory away from a fourth title in New York and 24th Grand Slam championship overall...Wings secure the No. 4 seed in playoffs with a 106-91 over Storm; Loyd sets points record
