LOS ANGELES — Mitch Haniger is expected to be out until at least late August, so expect to see more of 21-year-old rookie Luis Matos roaming the Giants’ outfield.Haniger, the Giants’ highest-priced free-agent addition, underwent successful surgery on his fractured forearm Thursday in Los Angeles and was given a recovery timeline of 10 weeks, meaning he hasn’t been ruled out for the season but has little wiggle room for potential setbacks. Haniger had a plate and screws inserted as part of the operation to repair his right ulna, which was fractured Tuesday when he was hit by a pitch. The 10-week timeline would place Haniger’s return around the last week of August, though as manager Gabe Kapler reminded reporters before Friday’s series opener against the Dodgers, it is merely an estimate.“When we’re talking about two-plus months out, probably a little bit of flexibility in there in terms of how long the rehab assignment is,” Kapler said. “...Dodgers’ third baseman Max Muncy goes on IL with hamstring strain

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Max Muncy went on the 10-day injured list Friday with a strained hamstring. The team had been hoping to avoid making the move, but Muncy needed more time to recover after getting hurt in last weekend’s game at Philadelphia.“It was a low-grade strain, tried to go out there and run and still felt it,” manager Dave Roberts said. “He can still hit, but we’d have to (pinch) run for him.”The move was retroactive to Tuesday, so Muncy will be eligible to come off the IL in time for the Dodgers’ series against Houston at home starting June 23.“I love playing,” he said this week. “I don’t like sitting. It kills me.”Muncy has struggled offensively this season, hitting .191 with 18 home runs and 45 RBI in 60 games. It’s his first time on the IL this season and fourth time in his career.Chris Taylor and Michael Busch figure to split time at third base while Muncy is sidelined. It was a battle of arguably the biggest disappointments in the National League this season Friday at Citi Field, however, there were some signs of encouragement for the home team. The Mets’ (33-36) bats broke out in a much-needed way in their 6-1 series-opening win over the Cardinals (27-43) and wasted no time to get the good vibes rolling.
