(KRON) -- Some union leaders and workers are demanding that San Jose officials develop a safety plan before the city constructs tiny homes in the Cerone Valley Transportation Authority Yard for hundreds of homeless residents. The VTA Board of Directors approved the construction of 200 tiny homes for emergency interim housing on Thursday evening. The project has triggered safety and security concerns for VTA workers and surrounding neighbors."With no safety management plan being offered or funded by Mayor Matt Mahan and the lack of safety oversight by the City the San Jose, we are deeply concerned about the potential impacts of cramming hundreds of currently unhoused residents onto the Cerone VTA Yard," said Jean Cohen, executive officer for the South Bay Labor Council. San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan is pushing hard to rapidly complete tiny homes projects. Mahan recently wrote on his website, "This is a 'Housing First' approach. WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden said Friday that he could potentially meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of next month's Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in San Francisco.“There has been no such meeting set up, but it is a possibility," Biden told reporters when asked about the prospects of a face-to-face meeting with the Chinese leader.Biden and Xi have not spoken since their meeting last November of the sidelines of the Group of 20 summit in Bali, Indonesia. White House officials have previously made clear that they hoped the two leaders would soon hold talks, and administration officials have been working to get the Chinese to agree to a meeting.Relations between the world's two largest economies have faced no shortage of strain over the last year. The Biden administration shot down a Chinese spy balloon that traversed the continental U.S. earlier this year. SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Bill Armstrong’s first move as the Arizona Coyotes’ general manager was to do nothing.Wanting to take a calculated look at the moribund franchise, Armstrong sat back and watched for an entire season before deciding on a course of action. His plan: a nearly complete overhaul. To pull off his rebuild, Armstrong needed a coach who could connect with and develop young players. André Tourigny was the perfect fit.“The one thing about him was that he was firm with his players, he motivated his players, but didn’t leave a scar,” Armstrong said. “I felt like we needed that type of coach because we were in the process of gutting everything, keeping what we liked then added in young players. You need to bring them in properly and I felt like he could do that.”The Coyotes have been a curiosity across the league as the franchise has gone through a string of owners, including four years of being operated by the NHL, regularly missed the playoffs and strug...Guaidó dice a CNN que no le teme a la orden de arresto en Venezuela: Es una “herramienta” de manipulación de Maduro

ATLANTA (AP) — Georgia soon will become the first state in the nation to offer medical marijuana products at independent pharmacies, state officials said. The Georgia Board of Pharmacy began accepting applications this week, and nearly 120 pharmacies have agreed to provide medication from Botanical Sciences, one of the state’s two licensed production companies, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. It will likely take a few weeks before medical marijuana is available in pharmacies. After they submit applications, inspections will be required before the board grants approval.Medical marijuana is only available to Georgians with approval from a physician to treat severe illnesses including seizures, terminal cancers, Parkinson’s disease and post-traumatic stress disorder. Low THC oil can contain no more than 5% THC, the compound that gives users a high. The expansion of medical cannabis sales into drug stores will put low THC oil within reach of many more patients, adding to the st...Max Verstappen qualifies on pole for the Qatar Grand Prix. LOSAIL, Qatar (AP) — Max Verstappen underlined why he’s on the verge of a third consecutive Formula One title as he qualified on pole for the Qatar Grand Prix on Friday. He can clinch the title in Saturday’s sprint race.Verstappen set a commanding time early in the third and last session of qualifying and bailed out of his final run after his car slid off the racing line. It didn’t matter as George Russell could only manage a time .441 seconds slower than Verstappen as he qualified second. His Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton was third, .527 off the pace.Verstappen can secure the title with at least a sixth-place finish in the sprint Saturday. That contest will have its own separate “shootout” qualifying session earlier the same day. If it doesn’t work out Saturday for the Dutch driver, pole position is the best possible insurance policy for Sunday.“It doesn’t really change anything. I just want to have a good weekend,” Verstappen said. “And of course, I know...Residentes de Loudoun pernoctan para solicitar ayuda para vivienda

LYON, France (AP) — New Zealand is sweating on the fitness of starting tighthead prop Tyrel Lomax for the Rugby World Cup quarterfinals after he suffered another leg injury.Lomax strained the medial ligament in his right knee against Uruguay on Thursday in Lyon. He lasted only nine minutes of his first start since the late-August defeat to South Africa when his right thigh was accidentally gashed by studs. The All Blacks don’t know yet how bad is the strain.“We’re just getting some scans now,” coach Ian Foster said on Friday. “It’s definitely looking like a medial. It doesn’t look overtly significant.”The All Blacks beat Uruguay 73-0 and clinched a quarterfinal spot, likely against Ireland on Sunday week at Stade de France. They’ll know the opponent for sure after Ireland plays Scotland on Saturday.Lomax’s backup against Uruguay, Fletcher Newell, also came off late with a knee issue but Foster said that was precautionary. If Lomax can’t play i...Peacock documentary tackles wrestler, Olympic gold medalist Kurt Angle’s struggles toward sobriety
